FAT MAN’S FORGE blacksmith based in Hartlip, Kent accept commission work and liaise closely with the client to fulfil their requirements. By using traditional blacksmithing techniques.
I begin with drawings which are then made to scale, so that the client can visualise the end product.
Projects can be large or small from an internal staircase, external railings and gates. To a fire poker or candle holder.
The piece will be finished to preserve and protect using appropriate techniques. Internal, lacquered, waxed or painted. External galvanised or powder coated for longevity.
Larger pieces will be delivered and fitted.

Courses Run From: 08:30am – 16:00pm
A basic blacksmithing or knife making course is a great way to learn about the beautiful craft of blacksmithing.
All courses focus on making something for you to take home with you either a traditional decorative piece for your home or garden, such as coat hooks, fire poker or a pretty rose, and bush craft knife making courses.
If you have something you would particularly like to make please call and discuss with me, but remember a day passes quickly!!
The course takes place at Potters Barn Farm in Hartlip, Kent. With a large and spacious custom built workshop. During the course you will learn how to use a traditional coke forge as well as using more modern tools such as a belt grinder.
Each course is one on one or some larger courses are available for a maximum of 3 people.
What’s included in the price?
I provide all tools, safety glasses, leather gloves and aprons, you will need to bring appropriate non flammable clothing and suitable footwear, no open toed shoes.
All activities will be supervised according to your ability and level of experience, assistance given throughout to suit individual needs. Ultimately, I want you to go home with a piece you’re proud of and a sense of achievement.
A light lunch is provided, also tea coffee and cold drinks available throughout the day, please let me know if you have any dietary requirements when you book your place on a course.
